Eugene “Gene” Masselink (1910-1962) joined the Taliesin Fellowship in 1933 and remained a valued member of the community for his “lightness and love and devotion” until his untimely death in 1962. Born in South Africa, Gene and his family later moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he grew up. Gene studied painting at Ohio State University where he met Frank Lloyd Wright at a speaking engagement. After graduating, Gene joined the Taliesin Fellowship where he quickly became Wright’s trusted secretary. In addition to keeping the business running smoothly, Gene was an accomplished designer, artist and printer. He produced many abstract murals - examples can be found at Taliesin West (Scottsdale, AZ) and Price Tower (Bartlesville, OK). He also designed the icons for the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church (Wauwatosa, WI).
