Teco is a combination of the words "terra cotta," which is clay-based type of ceramic pottery. Teco vases were originally produced by the American Terra Cotta and Ceramics Company—located in Terra Cotta, IL—in the late 1800s and into the early 1900s. The first manufacturer of architectural terracotta, they produced drain tile, chimney tops, and, of course, pottery.
Frank Lloyd Wright appreciated the organic style of the Teco vase and often used them as decorative elements in his structures.
