Whirling Arrow
Frank Lloyd Wright's Whirling Arrow is a symbolic motif that reflects his deep connection to Native American culture, specifically the Hopi people. The design consists of an arrow in motion, with curved lines radiating outward to symbolize energy and movement. Wright adopted this motif after being inspired by ancient petroglyphs during his time in the Southwest, particularly at Taliesin West, his Arizona winter home and architectural studio.
The Whirling Arrow represents Wright’s belief in the interconnectedness of nature, humanity, and creativity, aligning with his philosophy of organic architecture. It became a personal symbol for Wright, often used to signify his connection to the land and the importance of harmony between built and natural environments. The Whirling Arrow remains a lasting emblem of his vision, appearing in various aspects of his work and continuing to resonate as a reflection of his architectural ideals.
