Waterlilies Coasters, tops of four in set

Waterlilies Round Coasters, Set of 4

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is recognized world-wide as one of the greatest architects of the twentieth century. His work heralded a new thinking in architecture, using innovation in design and engineering made possible by newly developed technology and materials. His creative ability extended far beyond the border of architecture to graphic design, furniture, art glass, textiles, and decorative elements for the home.

This delicate stylized design of waterlilies, common in the tranquil ponds of the Midwest, is adapted from Frank Lloyd Wright’s drawing “Waterlilies,” which is thought to be designed for an art glass screen in 1895 but never produced. This early example epitomizes Wright’s ability to incorporate themes from nature and exemplifies his philosophy of “organic architecture” – connecting the natural world to his architecture and his decorative designs.
